## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR (CFI) HAD TAUGHT THE STUDENT PILOT THE INCORRECT PROCEDURE FOR A SOFT FIELD TAKEOFF FOR AIRCRAFT BEING USED. THE AIRPARK BEING UTILIZED HAS A SOD RUNWAY WHICH REQUIRED THE SOFT FIELD TAKEOFF PROCEDURE AS OUTLINED IN THE PILOTS OPERATING HANDBOOK. THE PROCEDURE REQUIRES A 10 DEGREE FLAP SETTING FOR THE TAKEOFF. THE FLAPS WERE SET TO THE UP POSITION (0 DEGREES) FOR THIS TAKEOFF. THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE PROPERLY IN GROUND EFFECT AND POSSIBLY TOUCHED BACK DOWN ON TO THE SOD SURFACE AND DID NOT GAIN SUFFICIENT FLYING SPEED. THE AIRCRAFT HIT THE FENCE AT THE RUNWAY FAR END, THEN CROSSED A ROAD AND HEDGE AND FINALLY SETTLED INTO THE ADJACENT COW PASTURE. IT COLLIDED WITH A LARGE METAL COW FEEDER RING AND SUFFERED SUBSTANCIAL DAMAGE. THE THREE OCCUPANTS SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THE STUDENT PILOTS FATHER WAS IN BACK SEAT. THE CFI DID NOT PROPERLY INTERVENE TO PREVENT THE ACCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
