## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

STUDENT WAS PRACTICING STEEP TURNS AND STALLS IN PREPARATION FOR SOLO FLIGHT. AT 8200MSL, CFI PULLED BACK THROTTLE TO IDLE AND INFORMED STUDENT THAT HE HAD "LOST HIS ENGINE". STUDENT PERFORMED CHECKLIST AND DID EVERYTHING THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO DO. CFI THEN INSTRUCTED STUDENT TO RECOVER. STUDENT RETRACTED FLAPS INSTEAD OF GOING FULL ON THROTTLE. CFI ATTEMPTED TO TAKE CONTROLS, BUT STUDENT FROZE WHILE HOLDING THE CONTROLS FULL BACK, WHICH SLOWED THE AIRCRAFT DOWN EVEN MORE. AIRCRAFT SANK EVEN FASTER. CFI WENT TO FULL THROTTLE AND ATTEMPTED TO RECOVER, BUT AIRCRAFT WAS VERY LOW AT THIS TIME. CFI WAS ABLE TO KEEP AIRCRAFT FROM STALLING, BUT THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE MAINS ON THE GROUND VERY HARD, BRINGING THE NOSE DOWN HARD, CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP ONTO IT'S BACK. STUDENT AND CFI EXITED AIRCRAFT. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.
