## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PINEHURST/SOUTHERN PINES, NC (SOP): RV-8, STRUCK THE LEFT WING AND LANDING GEAR ON A RUNWAY END IDENTIFIER LIGHT (REIL) JUST BEFORE LANDING ON RUNWAY 05. AIRCRAFT LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT AND TAXIED TO THE RAMP. PILOT REPORTED THAT THE LEFT FUEL TANK WAS PUNCTURED AND DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL PAN. POB: 2, INJURIES: NONE. 06/29/2023 1850Z

PILOT TOLD A PERSON HE HAD JUST BEEN TO CARTHAGE, A SHORT (APPROX. 2500’) RUNWAY, SO HE DIDN’T WANT TO BE HIGH ON APPROACH, BUT HE WAS VERY LOW TO HIT THE LIGHT. THE ROC SAID THE PILOT TOLD HIM HE WAS JUST LOW. "PERSON" IS A FORMER AIRLINE/MILITARY PILOT AND SAYS: THE RUNWAY AT SOP IS PLENTY LONG AND A LOW APPROACH IS NOT NECESSARY.

AIRCRAFT HAD DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WHEEL, AND POSSIBLY LEFT FUEL TANK, BUT LANDED SAFELY AND TAXIED IN SAFELY. THE RV-8 IS CURRENTLY ON THE RAMP.

TWO POB, NO INJURIES.

WEATHER: WINDS VRB03, CLOUDS SCT 055, HAZE, VIS 6SM, TEMP 30C

THE PILOT BUILT THIS AIRCRAFT HIMSELF.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
