## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THIS LANDING ACCIDENT OCCURRED DURING THE SECOND LANDING OF THE DAY AT THE SAME GENERAL LOCATION. AFTER THE FIRST LANDING, THE AIRMAN WALKED THE SAND BAR LANDING SURFACE, NOTING SOFT AREAS AND OTHER AREAS TO AVOID, AND ESTIMATED APPROXIMATELY 1,200 FEET OF AVAILABLE LANDING SURFACE AT THIS OFF AIRPORT GRAVEL/SAND BAR.

DURING THE SECOND (ACCIDENT) LANDING APPROACH, THE AIRMAN TOUCHED DOWN FROM AN ON SPEED, 3 POINT LANDING WITH ENGINE POWER AT IDLE. THE FRONT WHEELS HIT A SLIGHT RISE IN THE SURFACE, CAUSING A BOUNCE AND SUBSEQUENTLY THE FRONT TIRES DUG INTO THE SOFT SURFACE, CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP ONTO IT'S BACK, POINTED IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. THE AIRMAN SHUT DOWN ALL AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS AND EGRESSED. NO INJURIES TO THE SOLE PILOT OCCUPANT. AIRCRAFT SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC23LA047](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC23LA047), Jul 5, 2023: Maule M-5-210C (N51592), Kusatan, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's selection of unsuitable terrain for landing, which resulted in a bounced landing and an encounter with soft terrain, and a nose over.

## Other reports on N51592 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19791010052859I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19791010052859I), Oct 10, 1979: Maule M5210C (N51592), Dodson, MT, Minor damage. Pilot landed in a rough field, left main collapsed. Ended nose up.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
