## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT WERE FLYING SOUTH OF THE EMMETT, IDAHO AIRPORT. THE INSTRUCTOR WAS GOING TO DEMONSTRATE AN OFF-AIRPORT AUTOROTATION. THE INSTRUCTOR REPORTED HIS ALTITUDE AT 400 AGL AND HIS AIRSPEED AT 55 KNOTS ON ENTRY. HIS INTENTION WAS A POWER RECOVERY AT 200 AGL, BUT AT THAT ALTITUDE AND AIRSPEED HE DID NOT HAVE THE ENERGY TO RECOVER BEFORE IMPACTING THE GROUND AND ROLLING THE HELICOPTER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR23LA265](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR23LA265), Jul 8, 2023: Robinson Helicopter R22 Beta (N74778), Emmett, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The instructor’s failure to maintain airspeed during a simulated turning autorotation, which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
