## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JULY 25, 2023, AT 0740 CST, AN EXPERIMENTAL HEATH V-STRUT AIRCRAFT, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ DEPARTED FROM OSHKOSH WI (OSH) TO BROADHEAD WI (C37). THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THE TAKE OFF ON RUNWAY 36 WAS NORMAL AND CLIMB RATE AS EXPECTED. THE AIRCRAFT TURNED TO A HEADING OF 150 DEGREES PER THE EAA DEPARTURE BRIEFING INSTRUCTIONS TO AVOID RUNWAY 9/27. THE AIRCRAFT WAS NO LONGER CLIMBING, AND A STEADY DECREASE IN PERFORMANCE WAS NOTED BY THE PILOT. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND IN A FIELD ADJACENT TO THE RUNWAY AND FLIPPED OVER. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANIAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT RECEIVED INJURIES AND WAS LATER TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL FOR OBSERVATION. THE AIRCARFT WAS BEING OPERATED UNDER 14 CFR PART 91 WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN23FA320](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN23FA320), Jul 25, 2023: Heath V-Strut (N9549), Oshkosh, WI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain adequate airspeed and his exceedance of the airplane’s critical angle of attack, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
