## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS LANDING AT U03 AIRPORT ON RUNWAY 09 WITH A SLIGHT TAIL WIND. AIRCRAFT'S LEFT MAIN TIRE TOUCHED DOWN APPROXIMATELY 5 FEET INTO THE DIRT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND THE LEFT SHOCK STRUT CONTACTED THE RUNWAY LANDING LIGHT. THE PILOT APPLIED RIGHT RUDDER TRYING TO GET THE AIRCRAFT BACK ON THE RUNWAY WHEN THE TAIL SWUNG AROUND TO THE LEFT FORCING A RIGHT VIOLENT TURN ACROSS THE RUNWAY BY EVIDENCE OF BOTH MAIN TIRE MARKS ON THE RUNWAY WITH THE LEFT TIRE SUPPORTING MOST OF THE AIRCRAFT WEIGHT. WHEN THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RIGHT SIDE OF RUNWAY 09, THE LEFT MAIN TIRE DUG INTO THE DIRT WHICH SLAMMED THE LEFT WING INTO THE GROUND RESULTING IN THE WING BENDING UP APPROXIMATELY 25* AT THE WING STRUT LOCATION. BOTH LEFT WING AND LEFT AILERON SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR23LA292](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR23LA292), Jul 29, 2023: John Espe Cruiser (N314E), Buhl, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airplane control during landing with a gusting tail wind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
