## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT WAS ATTEMPTING TO TAKE OFF FROM A PRIVATE GRASS RUNWAY WITH AN AIRCRAFT/ENGINE COMBINATION HE WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE FAILED TO ADD ENOUGH POWER BEFORE REACHING THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT BECAME AIRBORNE, BUT WHEN TERRAIN DROPPED OFF INTO A CANYON AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY, GROUND EFFECT WAS LOST, AND THE AIRCRAFT DECENDED INTO A RAVINE. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RAVINE SUFFERING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN23LA347](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN23LA347), Aug 3, 2023: Air Tractor AT-401 (N6015W), Jamestown, ND, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain proper airspeed after liftoff, which resulted in the airplane exceeding its critical angle of attack and an aerodynamic stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
