## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT WAS DISTRACTED TRYING TO MAKE A GO/NO GO DECISON BASED ON WEATHER CONDITIONS. WHILE RETURNING TO THE AIRPORT, THE PILOT ENTERED THE DOWNWIND LEG OF THE PATTERN AT A POINT FURTHER DOWNWIND THEN USUAL AND PAST THE POINT HE NORMALLY LOWERS THE GEAR. HE THEN TURNED BASE AND FINAL BUT FAILED TO PERFORM A GUMPS CHECK OR EXTEND THE GEAR. ADDITIONALLY, THE PILOT DOES NOT HAVE SOLID GEAR OPERATING PROCEDURES OR PRACTICES IN THE TRAFFIC PATTERN DUE TO LIMITED EXPERIENCE IN RETRACTABLE GEAR AIRCRAFT AND THE FACT THAT MOST OF HIS PRACTICE HAS BEEN STRAIGHT IN INSTRUMENT APPROACHES. THEREFORE, THE PILOT FAILED TO PERFORM A SHORT FINAL CHECK TO ENSURE THE GEAR WAS DOWN. THE ABOVE LACK OF PROPER PROCEDURES RESULTED IN A GEAR UP LANDING.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
