## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT DIVERTED FROM ORIGIANAL DESTINATION FLUTON COUNTY AIRPORT TO 44N DUE TO HIGH HEADWINDS.

PILOT STATED, " HIS APPROCH WAS NORMAL, OVERFLEW THE FIELD AND DETERMINED RWY 35 WAS THE BETTER OPTION WITH A SLIGHT CROSSWIND RIGHT TO LEFT 90 DEGREES TO THE RUNWAY". HE DISCRIBED HIS LANDING AS BEING DELIBERATELY LONG BUT GOOD ONE AND THREFORE DECIDED NOT TO TAKE THE FIRST TURNOFF.

THE PILOT ALSO STATED " FROM THE FIRST TURN OFF ON, THE RUNWAY GOES DOWN HILL, SO I DECIDED TO TAP MY BRAKES TO MAKE SURE THEY WERE OK. WHEN I TAPPED THE BRAKES, THE RIGHT BRAKE GRABBED HARDER THAN THE LEFT, PRECIPITATING THE GROUND LOOP. I ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT WITH THE RIGHT BRAKE AND RUDDER, BUT I WAS ALREADY TOO LATE. THE GROUND LOOP FULLY DEVELOPED CAUSING THE LEFT LANDING GEAR TO FAIL.SUBSEQUENTLY THE LEFT WING IMPACTED THE GROUND AND CRUMPLED AND THE PROP TIPS HIT THE GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA23LA343](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA23LA343), Aug 21, 2023: Piper PA-17 (N4814H), Millbrook, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during landing, which resulted in a ground loop.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
