## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

MISHAP AIRCRAFT DEPARTED KLKV AT 1130 ENROUTE TO KCXP WHICH ARRIVED AROUND 1400. INITIAL LANDING SET UP WAS A DOWNWIND TO FOR RUNWAY 27, BUT WAS ADVISED BY ANOTHER PILOT THAT THE WIND HAD CHANGED AND SUGGESTED USING RUNWAY 09. MISHAP PILOT MADE A CALL OVER THE RADIO TO CHANGE TO A RIGHT TRAFFIC PATTERN FOR RUNWAY 09. ON FINAL APPROACH MISHAP PILOT REALIZED HE WAS A LITTLE HIGH AND INCREASED THE FLAPS FROM 20 DEGREES TO FULL FLAPS. AFTER GETTING INTO GROUND EFFECT, MISHAP PILOT STATES THAT A GUST OF HEADWIND PUSHED THE MISHAP AIRCRAFT UP. MISHAP PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LET THE AIRCRAFT SETTLE AND WAS PUSHED UP AGAIN BY WIND. MISHAP PILOT ATTEMPTED TO PERFORM A GO-AROUND HOWEVER, THE MISHAP AIRCRAFT WAS HAVING TROUBLE MAITAINING ALTITUDE AND THE WIND PUSHED THE MISHAP AIRCRAFT TO THE LEFT. MISHAP AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO LOSE ALTITUDE AND SCRAPED THE LEFT WING TIP ON TAXIWAY DELTA BEFORE IMPACTING A DITCH ON THE OTHER SIDE OF TAXIWAY DELTA. NO POST CRASH FIRE OCCURED AND THERE WERE 2 POB. PASSENGER SUFFERED BROKEN LEG, NOSE AND CHEEK BONE. MISHAP AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTAINTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR23LA325](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR23LA325), Aug 25, 2023: Cessna 172M (N4432R), Carson City, NV, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain aircraft control during an aborted landing in gusting wind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
