## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 31, 2023, AT 1607 THE SIOUX COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE CONTACTED THE DES MOINES FLIGHT STANDARDS DISTRICT OFFICE (DSM FSDO) TO REPORT A POSSIBLE AIRCRAFT ACCIDENT THAT HAPPENED THE PRVIOUS DAY. THE INVESTIGATION REVEALED ON AUGUST 30, 2023, THE ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^/PILOT WAS RELOCATING THE AIRCRAFT FROM THE SIOUX COUNTY REGIONAL AIRPORT TO HIS RESIDENCE. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LAND THE AIRCRAFT ON A BLACKTOP ROAD NEAR HIS RESIDENCE AND VEERED OFF THE ROAD AND INTO THE DITCH AND CONTACTED A POWER POLE WITH THE RIGHT WING RESULTING IN SUBSTATIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.

A SUBSTANTIAL PERIOD OF TIME LAPSED BEFORE THE ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ RESPONDED TO ATTEMPTS TO INSPECT THE AIRCRAFT AND MAKE A DETERMINATION THAT THE EVENT ROSE TO THE LEVEL OF AN ACCIDENT OR EVEN INCIDENT WHICH CREATED AN ABSTRACTED PERIOD OF TIME BETWEEN THE ACCIDENT AND THE CREATION OF THIS DOCUMENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN23LA428](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN23LA428), Aug 30, 2023: Bellanca 17-31A (N14723), Maurice, IA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during the landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
