## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

FLIGHT INSTRUCTION AT KAPA, PERFORMING TOUCH AND GOES. ON 4TH TAKEOFF AND EARLY IN THE CLIMBOUT, BOTH PILOTS SAW A LINE OF GEESE BUT HAD NO TIME TO REACT BEFORE IMPACT. IMPACT NOTED INTO THE FRONT OF THE AIRPLANE INCLUDED PROPELLER AND ENGINE AREA. FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CONTROLS, MAINTAINED WINGS LEVEL AND ATTEMPTED TO CONTINUE CLIMB. INSTRUCTOR WAS UNABLE TO GAIN SUFFICIENT ALTITUDE/AIRSPEED TO CONTINUE A NORMAL TRAFFIC PATTERN. MULTIPLE CALLS WERE MADE TO ATC DECLARING EMERGENCY, WITH ATC OFFERING ANY OBTAINABLE RUNWAY AND CLEARING TRAFFIC IN THE PATTERN. INSTRUCTOR PILOT ELECTED TO MAKE A LANDING AT A GOLF COURSE IMMEDIATELY IN FRONT OF THE AIRCRAFT RATHER THAN ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A 180 BACK TO THE AIRFIELD. INITIAL LANDING CONDUCTED TO GOLF COURSE FAIRWAY WAS MADE WITHOUT INCIDENT, BUT THERE WAS INSUFFICIENT ROOM TO COME TO A STOP. AIRCRAFT CONTINUED LANDING ROLL ONTO THE ROUGH, HIT A BERM, AND FLIPPED OVER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN23LA394](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN23LA394), Sep 2, 2023: Textron 172S (N20818), Englewood, CO, substantial damage. Probable cause: An in-flight collision with multiple geese during initial climb.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
