## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED WHEN IT IMPACTED A FIELD ABOUT 3 NM SOUTHEAST OF THE PILOT’S DESTINATION AIRPORT, ZAMPERINI FIELD AIRPORT (TOA), TORRANCE, CALIFORNIA. THE PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE SERIOUSLY INJURED. AT 1246, THE PILOT REPORTED TO AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL THAT HE WAS OVER THE VINCENT THOMAS BRIDGE, WE HAVE AN ENGINE FAILURE, AND COMING INTO LAND. THE CONTROLLER IMMEDIATELY CLEARED THE AIRPLANE TO LAND AND THE PILOT ACKNOWLEDGED THE CLEARANCE. HE THEN ASKED THE PILOT FOR HIS DESIRED RUNWAY AND THE PILOT RESPONDED WITH THE “SOUTH RUNWAYS”, REFERRING TO RUNWAYS 29R AND 29L. THERE WERE NO FURTHER RADIO TRANSMISSIONS FROM THE PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR23LA352](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR23LA352), Sep 25, 2023: Wayne Toddun Sling 4 TSI (N135WT), San Pedro, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power due to a failure of the No. 4 cylinder exhaust valve from overheating and excessive wear.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong.
