## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON OCTOBER 10, 2023, AT 1746 LOCAL TIME, AN CIRRUS SR22 AIRCRAFT, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE FOLLOWING A RIGHT LANDING GEAR FIRE DURING TAXI AT THE MBS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (MBS), SAGINAW, MICHIGAN. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THE FLIGHT WAS BEING CONDUCTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF TITLE 14 CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS (CFR) PART 91 WITHOUT A FLIGHT PLAN. BOTH THE PILOT AND PASSENGER RECEIVED NO INJURIES.

ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, THEY WERE TAXIING FOR DEPARTURE WHEN THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO APPLY BRAKES THE AIRCRAFT TURNED LEFT IN A TIGHT CIRCLE. THE PASSENGER ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE WITH THE SAME RESULT THEN NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE UNDERSIDE OF THE RIGHT WING. THE PILOT NOTIFIED THE TOWER OF THE FIRE AND CFR WAS DISPATCHED. THE PILOT SHUT THE AIRCRAFT DOWN AND SECURED IT THEN BOTH HE AND HIS PASSENGER EGRESSED FROM THE AIRCRAFT. WITHIN MINUTES THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ON SITE AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE.

INVESTIGATION PHOTOGRAPHS SHOW EXTENSIVE THERMAL DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT LANDING GEAR AND THE UNDERSIDE OF THE RIGHT WING. THE LANDING GEAR AXEL AND TIRE HAVE SEPARATED FROM THE GEAR LEG DUE TO THERMAL TEMPERATURES. THE AIRCRAFT WAS RECOVERED AND REMOVED FROM THE TAXIWAY TO A SECURE STORAGE FACILITY. IT IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME WHAT CAUSED THE RIGHT LANDING GEAR TO LOSE BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS AND CATCH FIRE.
