## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS PERFORMING A LANDING AT N51 AIRPORT AND PROCEEDED TO EXIT THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY CLOSE TO THE DEPARTURE END OF THE 3400 FOOT RUNWAY. EXAMINATION OF THE LEFT TIRE SHOWED A FLAT SPOT WITH A HOLE IN THE RUBBER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FLAT SPOT. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS AT 84 KNOTS ON SHORT FINAL WITH ADS-B DATA INDICATING A GROUND SPEED CLOSER TO 100 KNOTS. NORMAL APPROACH SPEED IN CALM WINDS SHOULD HAVE BEEN 70-75 KNOTS. THE EVIDENCE AND THE PILOT'S STATEMENT SHOWS THAT THE PILOT WAS FLYING WITH EXCESSIVE SPEED ON FINAL LEADING TO A LONG LANDING AND SUBSEQUENT HEAVY BRAKING WHICH LED TO A LOCKED BRAKE ON THE LEFT SIDE CAUSING THE DAMAGE TO THE TIRE AND THE SUBSEQUENT DEPARTURE OF THE RUNWAY TO THE LEFT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
