## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT REPORTED THAT DEPARTED RUNWAY 35 WITH A NORMAL TAKEOFF WITHOUT INCIDENT TO THE NORTH AND CONTACTED YUMA DEPARTURE FOR FLIGHT FOLLOWING. ON CLIMB OUT, STUDENT ADVISED THE INSTRUCTOR THAT HE FELT SOMETHING ON THE RUDDER PEDALS. THE INSTRUCTOR TOOK THE CONTROLS AND DID NOT NOTICE ANYTHING INITIALLY. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, THE INSTRUCTOR FELT THE LEFT AND RIGHT RUDDER PEDAL, PULSATING LIGHTLY. THE PULSATING GOT MORE PREDOMINANT QUICKLY. THE INSTRUCTOR ADVISED STUDENT TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY WITH YUMA DEPARTURE, AND IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO TURN BACK TO THE AIRPORT. AS THE INSTRUCTOR ROLLED OUT TO THE AIRPORT, THE RUDDER PEDALS WERE PULSATING BACK AND FORTH WITHOUT CONTROL. THE AIRPLANE STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY, AND INSTRUCTOR RAN THE ENGINE INOPERATIVE PROCEDURE. REALIZING THEY STILL HAD BOTH ENGINES, THE INSTRUCTOR REDUCED POWER IMMEDIATELY AND CONTINUED TO THE AIRPORT. THEN WITHOUT WARNING, WHEN ABOUT APPROXIMATELY 10-13 MILES FROM THE AIRPORT, THE WINDSHIELD SEPARATED FROM THE AIRCRAFT. AIRCRAFT LANDED STRAIGHT IN RUNWAY 17 WITHOUT INCIDENT.

FAA INSPECTOR INSPECTED AIRCRAFT ON 11/21/2023, AT YUMA KNYL LOOKED FOR DISTORTION IN FUSELAGE AND DAMAGED AROUND WINDSHIELD FRAME. NO STRUCTURAL DAMAGE OR DISTORTION WAS NOTED. SOME MINOR DAMAGE NOTED ON THE FARING AT THE FORWARD RUDDER TO FUSELAGE LOCATION. INSPECTION FOUND THAT THE RUDDER TRIM TAB ROD, FORWARD ROD END SEPARATED AT THE JAM NUT. ROD END WAS SENT TO NTSB FOR METALLURGICAL EXAMINATION.

THIS REPORT WILL BE AMENDED IF NTSB METALLURGICAL EXAMINATION YEILDS ANY DIFFERENT INFORMATION.
