## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON NOVEMBER 28, 2023, ON A FLIGHT FROM KMYF TO KMOD WHILE LANDING AT KMOD THE PILOT LOSES CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE. THE LANDING IS CAPTURED BY VIDEO. THE VIDEO SHOWS THE AIRPLANE TURNING HARD LEFT, THE LEFT WHEEL DEPARTS THE RUNWAY, THE RIGHT WING STRIKES THE RUNWAY WHILE THE NOSE OF THE AIRPLANE IS POINTING 45 DEGREES TO THE LEFT OF RUNWAY CENTERLINE, THE AIRPLANE TILTS FORWARD STRIKING THE PROPELLER SPINNER, FINALLY THE AIRPLANE FLIPS TAIL OVER NOSE AND COMES TO REST UPSIDE DOWN. THE PILOT REPORTS THAT “IT FELT AS THOUGHT THE LEFT BRAKE WAS BINDING ON LANDING.” INSPECTION OF THE AIRPLANE’S TIRES DID NOT REVEAL ANY BALD SPOTS. THE PILOT REPORTS LANDING WITH FLAPS SET TO 10 DEGREES. THE AIRPLANE WAS INSPECTED, AND THE FLAPS WERE SET TO 10 DEGREES.

THE RIGHT WING IS PARTIALLY DETACHED FROM THE FUSELAGE, THE VERTICAL STABILIZER HAS COMPRESSION DAMAGE, AND THE PROPELLER SPINNER IS CRUSHED. THE PILOT REPORTS MINOR INJURY TO HIS WRIST.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR24LA043](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR24LA043), Nov 29, 2023: Cessna 180J (N9991N), Modesto, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the pilot to maintain directional control of the airplane during landing, which resulted in a nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
