## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON NOVEMBER 30, 2023 THE PILOT IN COMMAND (PIC) OF ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THEY WERE GIVING DUEL INSTRUCTION TO A STUDENT PILOT. THEY DEPARTED SHEBOYGAN MEMORIAL AIRPORT (KSBM) AROUND 14:30PM (CST) AND BEFORE FLYING THE AIRCRAFT THEY CHECKED AND HAD APPROXIMATELY 45 GALLONS OF FUEL. THE PIC ESTIMATED THAT THEY FLEW FOR ABOUT 45 MIN WHEN THEY NOTICED A PERFORMANCE CHANGE IN THE AIRCRAFT AND SOMETHING WAS NOT NORMAL. THEY PULLED THE CARB HEAT ON AND DID NOT NOTICE A CHANGE IN RPM THEN PUSHED THE CARB HEAT OFF. USING THEIR YOUR RESOURCES YOU DETERMINED THAT MANITOWOC AIRPORT (KMTW) WAS APPROXIMATELY SEVEN MILES AWAY AND SHEBOYGAN WAS ABOUT 14 MILES SO THEY DECIDED TO GO TO MTW. WHILE APPROACHING MTW IT WAS RECOGNIZED THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO MAKE THE FIELD SO THEY LOOKED FOR THE BEST PLACE TO DO A FORCED LANDING AND STAY CLEAR OF PEOPLE THE AIRCRAFT HIT TREES ON A RIDGE WHICH CAUSED IT TO FLIP OVER AND COME TO REST ON A STEEP INCLINE INTO A VALLEY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN24LA052](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN24LA052), Nov 30, 2023: Cessna 182 (N8880T), Manitowoc, WI, substantial damage. Probable cause: Maintenance personnel’s improper servicing of the magnetos, which resulted in their accelerated wear, failure, and the total loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
