## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT STATED HE HAD BEEN INTERMITTENTLY USING CARB HEAT DURING CRUISE PORTION OF FLIGHT BUT HAD NOT USED IT IN APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES BEFORE INCIDENT. ON BASE TURN PILOT TURNED CARB HEAT ON AND NOTED DROP IN RPMS AND ENGINE RUNNING ROUGH, SO PILOT TURNED CARB HEAT OFF. ON TURNING FINAL ENGINE RPM DROPPED TO 500RPM AND NO POWER AVAILABLE, PILOT STATED HE AGAIN TURNED CARB HEAT ON AND OFF. PILOT UNABLE TO MAKE THE RUNWAY AND LANDED SHORT OF RWY30R. PILOT LINED UP NEXT TO MALSR LIGHTS AS HE KNEW IT WAS MOSTLY GRASS BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE ALTITUDE AND FLARED EARLY, CAUSING A STALL AND THE AIRCRAFT TO DROP THE LAST 10-15' ACCORDING TO PILOT'S ESTIMATION.

AIRCRAFT ENGINE CONTROLS NOTED AS MIXTURE AT IDLE CUTOFF, FULL THROTTLE, AND CARB HEAT OFF.

Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
