## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT TOOK OFF FROM THE WHITEMAN AIRPORT ENROUTE TO THE FRESNO AIRPORT. IN THE AREA OF THE GORMAN VOR APPROXIMENTALLY 30 MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT THE PILOT NOTICED THE AMP LIGHT ON INDICATING THE AIRCRAFT CHARGING SYSTEM HAD FAILED. PILOT STATED HE TRIED TO SWITCH TO A BACK UP ALTERNATOR BUT WAS UNABLE TO. PILOT TURNED THE AIRCRAFT AROUND HEADING BACK IN THE DIRRECTION OF THE WHITEMAN AIRPORT. THE PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND DECIDED TO LAND AT THE VAN NUYS AIRPORT UNDER ADVISEMENT FROM SOCAL TRACON. AT SOME PIONT THE AIRCRAFT LOST ALL ELECTRICAL POWER. PILOT WAS UNABLE TO PUT THE FLAPS AND LANDING GEAR DOWN DUE TO THE LOSS OF ALL ELECTRICAL POWER. PILOT USED THE HAND CRANK TO LOWER THE LANDING GEAR AND LANDED WITH THE FLAPS UP. PILOT LANDED AT HIGH SPEED DUE TO FLAPS UP. THE LANDING GEAR COLAPSED DIRECTLY AFTER THE NOSE RIGHT YAW. AIRCRAFT NEVER LOST ENGINE POWER.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
