## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JANUARY 26, 2024 A CESSNA 185 WAS PRACTICING SKI LANDINGS ON , PINEVIEW RESERVOIR NEAR OGDEN UTAH. ON THE FORTH LANDING AND TURNAROUND THE RIGHT HAND MAIN BROKE THROUGH THE ICE CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO START TO SINK. BOTH OCCUPANTS EXITED THE AIRCRAFT AS WATER POURED INTO THE CABIN THROUGH THE HEATING VENTS. AIRCRAFT SANK INITIALLY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE COWLINGS, BUT THEN CONTINUED TILL THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBMERGED TO THE WINGS.

PILOT HAD BEEN ON LAKE SURFACE SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE ICE FISHING AND FELT THAT THE ICE WAS DEEP ENOUGH TO SUPPORT AIRCRAFT. RANGERS ON SCENE STATED THAT THE LAKE IS FEED BY ARTESIAN SPRINGS THAT CAUSE SOFT SPOTS IN THE ICE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
