## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT ARRIVED AT KLRU THE NIGHT PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE AIRCRAFT BATTERY DOOR WAS OPENED AND BATTERIES DISCONNECTED. THE AIRCREW ARRIVED THE MORNING OF THE FLIGHT FOR A 0400 TAKEOFF. THE BATTERIES WERE RECONNECTED. THE AIRCREW ADMITS TO NOT ENGADGING THE BATTERY DOOR LOCK. THEY IMPLIE THAT THE LATCHES WERE SECURE. AT AN UNKNOWN POINT IN FLIGHT FROM KLRU TO KJQF, THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT DOOR OPENED AND DEPARTED THE AIRCRAFT. IT STRUCK MULTIPLE POINTS ON THE BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT DOOR AND GAUGED APPROXIMATLY 18 INCHES OF THE LOWER ENGINE COWL. THE BATTERY DOOR WAS NOT LOCATED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
