## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER DEPARTING GRASS RUNWAY PILOT NOTICED OIL ON THE WINDSCREEN AND RETURNED TO THE AIRPORT FOR PRECAUTIONARY LANDING. UPON LANDING ROLL-OUT THE NOSE WHEEL SANK IN SNOW AND MUDDY CONDITIONS RESULTING IN THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPING OVER ON IT'S BACK. STRUCTURAL DAMAGE OCCURED TO THE VERTICAL STABLIZER AND RUDDER. PILOT DID NOT OBSERVE ANY ABNORMAL AIRCRAFT ISSUES DURING PREFLIGHT TO INCLUDE OIL LEAKS, OR MISSING CAP. POST ACCIDENT IT WAS NOTED THAT THE OIL CAP WAS NOT SECURED IN THE CLOSED AND LOCKED POSITION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR24LA098](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR24LA098), Feb 22, 2024: Cessna 182A (N6323B), Weippe, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to secure the oil filler cap during the preflight inspection, which resulted in a precautionary landing on the soft surface and subsequent nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
