## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 02/2/2024, THE PILOT IN COMMAND WAS OPERATING A HARTLINE PULSAR 1 EXPERIMENTAL BUILD AIRCRAFT WITH SERIAL NUMBER 165. HE WAS DEPARTING HARRY P WILLIAMS MEMORIAL AIRPORT (PTN) LOUISIANA AT APPROXIMATELY 1615 LOCAL TIME VIA RWY 24 HEADING WEST. THE PIC WAS TRAVELING ALONE UNDER CFR PART 91 OPERATIONS. SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF, THE ENGINE STOPPED WORKING AND WOULD NOT RE-ENGAGE. THE PIC ATTEMPTED TO LAND THE AIRCRAFT BUT LOST CONTROL AND CRASHED THE AIRCRAFT AFTER HITTING THE AIRPORT FENCE LINE FACING NORTHBOUND TOWARDS RUNWAY 24 A FEW MINUTES AFTER TAKEOFF. THE AIRCRAFT CAUGHT ON FIRE AFTER GROUND IMPACT AND WAS DESTROYED ON SCENE. THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO ESCAPE THE WRECKAGE AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL TO RECEIVE MEDICAL ATTENTION FOR HIS INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN24LA120](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN24LA120), Feb 25, 2024: Pulsar I (N72BH), Patterson, LA, destroyed. Probable cause: The non-certificated pilot’s decision to operate an unairworthy engine, which led to cylinder failure and a loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
