## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING THE PREFLIGHT BRIEFING, THE CAPTAIN BRIEFED THE CABIN CREW OF FOUR FLIGHT ATTENDANTS (F/A) TO EXPECT TURBULENCE AND TO STAY SEATED UNTIL NOTIFIED THAT IT WAS SAFE TO GET UP. ONCE IN FLIGHT, THE CAPTAIN CALLED THE LEAD FLIGHT ATTENDANT (LFA) AND INFORMED THEM THAT THEY HAD ABOUT 25 MINUTES UNTIL THEY WOULD EXPERIENCE SOME ROUGH AIR. THE LFA INFORMED THE REST OF THE CABIN CREW THAT THEY HAD ABOUT TWENTY MINUTES TO CONDUCT SERVICE AND DETERMINED A MODIFIED SERVICE WOULD BE PROVIDED DUE TO THE SHORT TIME FRAME.

THE SERVICE WAS COMPLETED IN APPROXIMATELY 12 MINUTES AND THE FOUR F/AS WERE ACCOMPLISHING DUTIES TO SECURE THE CABIN AND GALLEYS IN PREPARATION FOR LANDING PRIOR TO TAKING THEIR ASSIGNED JUMPSEATS. IT IS DURING THIS TIME THAT THE SEVERE TURBULENCE WAS EXPERIENCED. ALL F/AS WERE IN OR NEAR THE AFT GALLEY AREA. IN ADDITION, THERE WERE TWO CABIN JUMPSEAT RIDERS OCCUPYING THE ADDITIONAL (NON-MINIMUM CREW) JUMPSEATS LOCATED IN THE AFT GALLEY.

THE CAPTAIN MADE AN ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE F/AS TO TAKE THEIR SEATS. THE CABIN JUMPSEAT RIDERS AND F/A 3L WERE ABLE TO SECURE THEMSELVES IN THE AFT GALLEY JUMPSEATS. F/A 2L WAS IN THE AISLE IN THE AFT CABIN AREA AND SAT ON THE FLOOR AND WAS SECURED BY PASSENGERS HOLDING ONTO HER. THE LFA AND F/A 2LI WERE IN THE AFT GALLEY AND WERE THROWN IN THE AIR AND THEN LANDED AND SAT/LAID ON THE FLOOR FOR THE DURATION OF THE TURBULENCE. THE LFA AND F/A 3L SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES AND F/A 2LI SUSTAINED A SERIOUS INJURY (BROKEN ANKLE FIBULA).

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
