## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT SUFFERED AN ENGINE POWER LOSS DURING DESCENT INTO LANDING AT MANASSAS REGIONAL AIRPORT (HEF). THE PIC STATED THE ENGINE STOPPED RESPONDING TO THROTTLE INPUTS DURING DESCENT AND HE WAS UNABLE TO MAKE THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED ONTO THE GRASSY AREA TO THE RIGHT OF THE APPROACH END OF THE RUNWAY AND HIT A CULVERT, CAUSING THE NOSE LANDING GEAR TO COLLAPSE AND FLIP THE AIRCRAFT INVERTED. THE PIC STATED HE DID NOT ENGAGE THE CARBURETOR HEAT DURING THE DESCENT, AND DID NOT CONDUCT THE DESCENT CHECKLIST, NOR ATTEMPT TO CLEAR THE ENGINE AT ANY POINT IN THE DESCENT, WHICH STARTED AT 5500 FEET.
