## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT WAS FLYING IN THE AIRPORT TRAFFIC PATTERN AND WAS LANDING ON A 3,000-FT-LONG TURF RUNWAY. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE “LANDED LONG” AND THAT THE AIRPLANE SUBSEQUENTLY OVERRAN THE DEPARTURE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRPLANE’S WINGS, FUSELAGE, AND EMPENNAGE WERE SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED DURING THE RUNWAY OVERRUN. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THERE WERE NOT PREIMPACT MECHANICAL MALFUNCTIONS OR FAILURES OF THE AIRPLANE THAT WOULD HAVE PRECLUDED A NORMAL OPERATION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA24LA189](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA24LA189), Apr 22, 2024: Cessna 172 (N5645T), Ridgeway, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to attain a proper touchdown point while landing, which resulted in a runway overrun.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
