## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON APRIL 30, 2024, AT APPROXIMATELY 14:00 LOCAL TIME, A RANS S7S SINGLE-ENGINE PISTON-POWERED FIXED-WING AIRCRAFT, RAN OFF THE RUNWAY WHILE ATTEMPTING LAND AND FULL STOP ON RUNWAY 23 AT HEMET RYAN AIRPORT (HMT). THE AIRCRAFT WAS ON A PRIVATE OPERATION FOR THE ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ HIMSELF, WHO HAD DEPARTED FROM FRENCH VALLEY AIRPORT (F70), MURRIETA, CALIFORNIA. WHEN THE AIRCRAFT ARRIVED TO THE AIRPORT. THE PILOT DECIDED TO THE TRAFFIC PATTERN WORKS.

DURING THIS PATTERN WORKS, AT HEMET RYAN AIRPORT ON RUNWAY 23, THE PILOT ENCOUNTERED A LEFT CROSSWIND GUST WHILE ROUNDING OUT.

PILOT TRIED TO CORRECT THE DRIFTING, BUT EXPERIENCED LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL CONTROL CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO VEER OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY.

THE ROUGH TERRAIN BEYOND THE RUNWAY CAUSED A FLAT TIRE (LIKELY A SIDEWALL BREACH) IN THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR. THE DEFLATED TIRE RIM DUG INTO THE GROUND, LEADING TO THE COLLAPSE OF THE RIGHT LANDING GEAR AND A NOSE-DOWN PITCH.

THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSE RESULTED IN A NOSE-DOWN PITCH, CAUSING THE PROPELLER TO STRIKE THE GROUND AND DAMAGE THE RIGHT WING.

THE AIRCRAFT SLID FOR VERY SHORT DISTANCE BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. THERE WERE NO INJURIES, FIRE, OR DAMAGE TO AIRPORT PROPERTY. BOTH OCCUPANTS WERE ABLE TO EXIT THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT HELP.

THE AIRCRAFT APPEARS TO HAVE SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE RIGHT WING BENT. THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR ASSEMBLY IS DAMAGED. THE PROPELLER STRUCK THE GROUND, POTENTIALLY CAUSING ENGINE DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR24LA144](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR24LA144), Apr 30, 2024: Rans S7 (N92NP), Hemet, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during landing with a crosswind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
