## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE ENROUTE FROM THE DFW AREA TO MGM, THE PILOT EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE SUDDENLY. THE SUDDEN OIL PRESSURE LOSS CAUSED THE ENGINE TO RAPIDLY HEAT WITH A CORRESPONDING SUDDEN ENGINE FAILURE. THE AIRCRAFT ATTEMPTED TO DIVERT TO SELMA AIRPORT ( CRAIG FIELD). THE AIRCRAFT WAS FORCED TO LAND OFF-FIELD APPROXIAMTELY 1 MILE FROM THE SELMA AIRPORT. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A TREE LIMB AND WAS FORCED DOWN INTO A OPEN FIELD. THE PILOT SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT INJURIES AND TRANSPORTED TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA24LA222](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA24LA222), May 19, 2024: Cessna 177 (N3268T), Selma, AL, substantial damage. Probable cause: Insufficient lubrication of the engine’s internal components, which resulted in a total loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
