## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MAY 18, 2024, AT APPROXIMATELY 1046 MDT, A PIPER PA28 SINGLE-ENGINE LAND AIRCRAFT (ASEL) WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT NEAR DELL CITY, TX. THE PILOT WAS FLYING VFR TO EL PASO, TX INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KELP) AND STATED HE EXPERIENCED AN ENGINE FAILURE WHILE IN STRAIGHT AND LEVEL FLIGHT ENROUTE TO THE AIRPORT. THE PILOT SELECTED AN AVAILABLE FIELD TO LAND; AND DURING THE OFF-FIELD LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED. NO FAA FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED AT THE MIDLAND INTERNATIONAL AIR AND SPACE PORT AIRPORT, KMAF, EARLIER IN THE DAY. THE FAA PRIVATE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED.

SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION DETERMINED THAT THE ACCIDENT WAS ATTRIBUTABLE TO FUEL STARVATION CAUSED BY THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO SWITCH FUEL TANKS IN A TIMELY MANNER.
