## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT DEPARTED KMSY WITHOUT INCIDENT BUT WHILE CLIMBING THROUGH APPROXIMATELY 30000 FT THE PILOT WINDSHIELD UNEXPECTEDLY SHATTERED BUT REMAINED INTACT. THE PILOT THEN STOPPED THE CLIMB AND REQUESTED A DESCENT TO 10000 FT WHERE HE AND THE FIRST OFFICER FURTHER ASSESSED THE SITUATION AND FOLLOWED THE AIRCRAFT QUICK REFERENCE HANDBOOK (QRH) PROCEDURES. THE PILOT THEN REQUESTED AND RECEIVED ATC CLEARANCE TO RETURN TO THE DEPARTURE AIRPORT WHERE THE AIRCRAFT LANDED UNEVENTFULLY AND THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
