## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AT 11:40 AM LOCAL TIME, JUNE 7, 2024 NEAR ROCHE HARBOR, WASHINGTON, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ A 1961 BEECHCRAFT A45/T-34 MENTOR CRASHED UNDER UNKNOWN CIRCUMSTANCES INTO PUGET SOUND. THE AIRCRAFT HAD DEPARTED MOUNT VERNON-SKAGIT REGIONAL AIRPORT (BVA), WA WHERE THE PILOT HAD PLANNED TO RETURN. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SEEN ON RECORDED VIDEO DESCENDING RAPIDLY FROM A MANEUVER, WITH THE ENGINE STILL RUNNING. THE AIRCRAFT THEN IMPACTED THE WATER AND BROKE APART UPON IMPACT. THE PILOT WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT ON THE AIRCRAFT AND WAS FATALLY INJURED WHEN THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE WATER. THE WRECKAGE WAS RECOVERED FROM THE SOUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR24FA184](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR24FA184), Jun 7, 2024: Beech A45 (N268AF), Deer Harbor, WA, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot’s decision to perform an aerobatic maneuver at low level, and his misjudged entry altitude for the maneuver, which resulted in impact with water.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
