## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JUNE 8, 2024 AT OCALA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT-JIM TAYLOR FIELD (OCF), AN EXPERIMENTAL AMATEUR BUILT ZENITH 701 AIRCRAFT OPERATED BY A PILOT WITH NO PASSENGERS, DEPARTED WITH THE PURPOSE OF DOING PATTERN WORK AT APPROXIMATELY 1930 EST. OCF AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL (ATC) REPORTED THAT THE AIRCRAFT DID TWO ORBITS AROUND THE AIRFIELD AND ON THE THIRD ORBIT WAS CLEARED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 36. AT APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET ABOVE THE RUNWAY THE AIRCRAFT TURNED ABRUPTLY 45 DEGREES TO THE WEST THEN STARTED WEST BOUND, STARTED TO CLIMB, TOOK A HARD LEFT, AND NOSE-DIVED INTO THE TREES WEST OF THE AIRPORT PERIMETER FENCE NEXT TO RUNWAY 36. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE, THE PILOT SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES, NO DAMAGE TO AIRPORT PROPERTY WAS REPORTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA24LA256](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA24LA256), Jun 8, 2024: Zenith 701 (N643E), Ocala, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain aircraft control and his exceedance of the airplane’s critical angle of attack, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall and spin during an attempted go-around.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
