## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JUNE 16, 2024, APROXIMATELY 0746 MOUNTAIN DAYLIGHT TIME, A TECHNAM P2006T AIRPLANE, WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED WHEN IT WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT NEAR LARKSPUR, COLORADO. THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR AND PILOT RECEIVING INSTRUCTION WERE SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE AIRPLANE WAS OPERATING AS A 14 CFR PART 91 INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT. THE FLIGHT DEPARTED THE CENTENNIAL AIRPORT (KAPA) TO THE SOUTHWEST AND WAS PRACTICING ONE ENGINE INOPERATIVE EMERGENCY PROCEDURES NEAR PERRY PARK (CO93). THE PILOTS SHUT DOWN THE LEFT ENGINE, THEN STRUGGLED TO RESTART THE ENGINE. AFTER THE SECOND ATTEMPT THE ENGINE RESTARTED, AND THEY DECIDED TO RETURN TO THE DEPARTURE AIRPORT. WHILE HEADING BACK TO THE AIRPORT THEY NOTED THAT THE AIRPLANE REQUIRED ADDITIONAL RIGHT RUDDER TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AND THE ENGINE COOLANT LEVELS AND ENGINE RPM DECREASED. THE PILOT IN COMMAND (PIC) TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND PROCEEDED TO CO93. AFTER MAKING THE 180 DEGREE TURN FOR THE AIRPORT THE PIC FEATHERED THE LEFT ENGINE PROPELLER. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO DESCEND AND THE PIC DECIDED THAT HE COULD NOT MAKE CO93 AND LINED UP FOR A LANDING ON INTERSTATE 25 NEAR EXIT 173. DURING THE TOUCHDOWN ON I-25 THE LEFT WING STRUCK A ROAD SIGN THEN BALLOONED UP AND OVER THE NORTHBOUND LANES OF I-25 THEN IMPACTED A SWAMPY AREA JUST EAST OF THE INTERSTATE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN24LA226](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN24LA226), Jun 16, 2024: Costruzioni Aeronautiche Tecna P2006T (N968GV), Larkspur, CO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The flight instructor’s failure to apply carburetor heat, which resulted in a loss of left engine power due to carburetor icing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
