AN ATC TOWER CONTROLLER WATCHED THE LANDING AND DESCRIBED A SMOOTH TOUCHDOWN BUT THE NOSE LANDING GEAR RETRACTED. THE PIC HAD ALSO EXPLAINED THAT AS HE TOUCHED DOWN, THE NOSE KEPT DROPPING AND SUBSEQUENTLY CONTACTED THE GROUND. THE PIC CONTINUED TO SHUT DOWN THE AIRCRAFT AND EGRESSED THE AIRCRAFT. ## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA24LA275](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA24LA275), Jun 25, 2024: Piper PA23 (N14175), Montgomery, AL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the nose landing gear actuator to maintain a fully down and locked position.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
