## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT STATED THAT AFTER TAKING OFF FROM REDLANDS AIRPORT (REI) THEY WERE CLIMBNG OUT THE NORTHEAST TOWARDS THE MOUNTAINS. DURING THE CLIMBOUT THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO LOSE SPEED AND ALTITUDE AND HE WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN THE CLIMBOUT. HE LOCATED A SPOT WHERE HE COULD ATTEMPT TO LAND THE AIRCRAFT. THE IMPACT WITH THE GROUND CAUSED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT AND THE PASSENGER WERE ABLE TO EXIT THE AIRCRAFT. THEY BEGAN TO WALK OUT OF THE ACCIDENT SIGHT AND WERE EVENTUALLY PICKED UP BY A SHERIFF'S HELICOPTER. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR24LA221](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR24LA221), Jul 1, 2024: Beech B19 (N6553R), Running Springs, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s decision to maneuver the airplane at a low altitude toward rising terrain, which exceeded the climb capability of the airplane.

## Other reports on N6553R (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19840125011741I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19840125011741I), Jan 25, 1984: Beech B19 (N6553R), Santa Ana, CA, Minor damage. Collided with N6034X taxiing on the same taxiway. Pilot was told to give way to N6034X but misjudged distance.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
