## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

BELL 407 HELICOPTER WAS ON A FIREFIGHTING OPERATION WHEN IT WAS ATTEMPTING TO REFILL THE ATTACHED BUCKET WITH WATER FROM BENCH LAKE. THE WIND SHIFTED/SHEARED AND CAUSED THE HELICOPTER TO DESCEND. THE WATER BUCKET HIT THE LAKE SURFACE, PILOT LOST CONTROL AND THE HELICOPTER WENT INTO A DYNAMIC ROLLOVER CRASHING INTO THE LAKE. PILOT WAS THE ONLY ONE ON BOARD AND WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE AIRCRAFT, SWIM TO SHORE AND GET HELP. PILOT SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES...

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR24LA247](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR24LA247), Jul 11, 2024: Bell 407 (N21BH), Stanley, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: A sudden wind shift which resulted in a rapid descent and subsequent dynamic rollover and collision into water.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
