## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 08/02/2024 THE RIVERSIDE FSDO RECEIVED NOTICE OF A PARACHUTE ACCIDENT AT THE SKYDIVING OPERATION, PERRIS CA, THAT OCCURRED AUGUST 02, 2024, 1430 PDT TIME. ACCORDING TO THE PRELIMINARY NOTICE, SKYDIVERS ENCOUNTERED WIND GUSTS APPROXIMATELY 50 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND, CAUSING A HARD LANDING. NO AIRCRAFT WAS INVOLVED, AND THE PARACHUTE WAS LEGALLY PACKED AND NOT A FACTOR. THIS WAS A TANDEM JUMP WITH INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT. ACCORDING TO THE RIVERSIDE CORONER, THE INSTRUCTOR DIED AT THE SCENE AND THE STUDENT WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL STATUS UNKNOWN AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. AFTER DISCUSSIONS WITH THE SKYDIVING MANAGER, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE STUDENT PARACHUTE JUMPER HAD ALSO DIED AT THE RIVERSIDE COMMUNITY HOSPITAL THE FOLLOWING SATURDAY EVENING, AUGUST 03, 2024. THE MANAGER ALSO STATED THAT HE SAW THE ACCIDENT AND VERIFIED THAT THE ACCIDENT WAS CAUSED BY THE WIND GUST, DESCRIBING IT AS A DUST DEVIL. HE STATED THAT THE PARACHUTES ARE MANEUVERABLE, BUT NOT IN A SITUATION WHERE THE WIND SUDDENLY COMES UP AND YOU ARE ONLY 50 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND, NOT ALLOWING ENOUGH TIME FOR CORRECTIONS. STILL WAITING ON CAMI TAXOLOGY REPORT AND NTSB REPORT IF REQUIRED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
