ON 08/02/2024 I WAS NOTIFIED OF A FLOATPLANE ACCIDENT AT LAKE HOOD, I ARRIVED ON SCENE AND TOOK MULTIPLE PICTURES. THE AIRCRAFT WAS RELEASED PER THE NTSB FOR REMOVAL AND TRANSPORTATION BACK TO COMPANIES MX HANGER.

PILOT STATED THAT ON CLIMB OUT HIS FLOAT EQUIPPED AIRCRAFT ENGINE BEGAN TO RUN ROUGH FOLLOWED BY A DISTINCT BURP/GULP WITH A LOSS OF POWER. HE DECIDED TO ABORT THE TAKEOFF AND PULLED BACK THE POWER AND MIXTURE LEVERS MAKING A RAPID DESCENT TOWARDS THE LAKE. THE AIRCRAFT MADE SEVERAL BOUNCES ON THE WATER AND HIT SEVERAL OBJECTS AND CAME TO REST ON LAND. (SMS)

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC24LA073](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC24LA073), Aug 2, 2024: De Havilland DHC2 (N4444Z), Anchorage, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: A partial loss of power during takeoff climb for undetermined reasons.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
