## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

BASED ON CURRENT INFORMATION:

PILOT MAY HAVE ATTEMPTED TO MANEUVER AIRCRAFT WHILE FLYING THROUGH A CANYON IN IMC CONDITIONS. THE AIRCAFT IMPACTED THE MOUNTAIN IN A NEAR FLAT VELOCITY (ZERO ANGLE ATTITUDE) WITH THE PROPELLER FACING SOUTH ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN. A POST IMPACT FIRE CONSUMED THE AIRCRAFT FROM THE ENGINE BAY TO EMPENNAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR24FA270](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR24FA270), Aug 8, 2024: Cessna 182K (N2764Q), Augusta, MT, substantial damage, 3 fatal. Probable cause: The non-instrument-rated pilot’s decision to continue a visual flight rules flight into a rugged mountain area in deteriorating weather conditions, which resulted in impact with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
