## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING APPROACH INTO LOUSIA AIRPORT(KLKU) PIC EXPERIENCED WHAT MAY HAVE BEEN A WIND SHEAR AND BOUNCED ON CONTACT WITH RUNWAY. PIC PERFORMED A "GO AROUND" AND SECOND LANDING WAS NORMAL. PILOT CHECKED FUEL AND PREPARED TO RETURN TO THE ORIGIN AIRPORT (KMTN). DURING FLIGHT CONTROL CHECKS PIC EXPERIENCED WHAT SEEMED TO BE RESISTANCE IN THE ELEVATOR CONTROLS. PIC MADE THE DECISION TO ABORT THE FLIGHT DUE TO POSSIBLE CONTROL MALFUNCTIONS. A FOLLOW UP INSPECTION BY A CERTIFICATED MECHANIC SHOWED THAT THE INITIAL LANDING INTO KLKU HAD CAUSED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT SKIN AROUND NOSE GEAR, THE FLOOR BOARDS, AND THE ENGINE FIREWALL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA24LA364](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA24LA364), Aug 22, 2024: Cessna 172 (N72664), Louisa, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s improper landing flare which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
