## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 8/23/24 A PIPER ARCHER, CONDUCTING A TRAINING FLIGHT, EXPERIENCED A FUEL STARVATION EVENT AND LANDED SHORT OF RUNWAY 27R AT KPTK. THE INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT FAILED TO SWITCH FUEL TANKS DURING THE FLIGHT. DURING A TRIP IN THE PATTERN THE TOWER HAD EXTENDED THE AIRCRAFTS DOWNWIND AND INSTRUCTED THEM THAT ATC WOULD CALL THEIR BASE, WHILE ON EXTENDED DOWNWIND THE STUDENT PILOT ADDED POWER, THE ENGINE DIDN'T RESPOND AND THEN THE ENGINE QUIT. THE INSTRUCTOR TOOK CONTROLS, DECLARED EMERGENCY AND POINTED THE AIRCRAFT TO THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN ON AIRPORT PROPERTY, AND CAME TO REST IN A FIELD ABOUT 200' FROM THE START OF RUNWAY 27R. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT OR THE AIRPORT DURING THE EVENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
