## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 08/28/2024 AT APPROXIMATELY 1830L A DA40 DIAMOND, STARTED A TAKE OFF ROLL FROM RUNWAY 23L AT RDU AIRPORT IN MORRISVILLE, NC. DURING THE TAKE OFF ROLL, THE REAR DOOR CAME AJAR. THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT IN THE RIGHT SEAT TRIED TO SECURE THE DOOR, BUT THE AIRSTREAM CAUGHT THE DOOR AND IT DEPARTED THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT CLIMBED TO ABOUT 100' WHEN THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND SET IT BACK DOWN ON RUNWAY 23L AND TAXIED OFF AT TAXIWAY A4. THE PILOT NOTIFIED GROUND ABOUT THE DOOR AND TAXIED BACK TO THE RAMP. THE DOOR WAS PICKED UP BY GROUND OPERATIONS AND RETURNED. BOTH STUDENT PILOT AND INSTRUCTOR SAID THE DOOR AJAR WARNING ALARM DID NOT SOUND. DAMAGE WAS CONTAINIED TO THE TWO UPPER DOOR HINGES, DOOR SUPPORT STRUT AND DOOR STRUCTURE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
