## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT WAS OPERATING IN MOUNTAIN TERRAIN AT HIGH ALTITUDE AND INVESTIGATION REVEALED LOSS OF POWER AND POSSIBLE HIGH DENSITY ALTITUDE. THE AIRCRAFT APPARENTLY STALLED AND CRASHED. AIRCRAFT CAUGHT FIRE AND WAS DESTROYED. FEMALE PASSENGER WAS FATAL. PILOT WAS BURNED AND SUSTAINED SEVERAL BROKEN BONES AND BURNS OVER MOST OF HIS BODY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR24FA291](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR24FA291), Sep 1, 2024: American Champion 8GCBC (N23BD), Meeteetse, WY, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot’s decision to continue the flight over rising terrain at a low altitude in a high-elevation, high-density-altitude environment.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
