## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DEPARTURE FROM UNNAMED LAKE CLIMBING TO APPROXIMATELY 150 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND, ENGINE LOST POWER. PILOT MOVED FUEL SELECTOR LEVER FROM THE RIGHT (PRIMARY) TANK TO THE LEFT (RESERVE) TANK. ENGINE RAN MOMENTARILY FOR SEVERAL SECONDS AND AGAIN LOST POWER. AIRCRAFT DESCENDED STRAIGHT AND LEVEL AND IMPACTED TREES DAMAGING FLOATS, FUSELAGE, BOTH WINGS, AND PROPELLER. PILOT EXITED AIRCRAFT WITHOUT INJURIES. PILOT STATED FUEL GAUGE ON INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATED 10 GALLONS FUEL REMAINING IN BOTH TANKS. DURING WING DISASSEMBLY, MECHANIC VISUALLY INSPECTED FUEL TANKS AND VERIFIED THE RIGHT TANK EMPTY AND THE LEFT TANK HAVING APPROXIMATELY 2-3 GALLONS REMAINING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC24LA097](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC24LA097), Sep 14, 2024: Stinson 108-3 (N691E), Lime Village, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate preflight inspection and fuel planning, which resulted in a total loss of engine power due to fuel exhaustion and a subsequent forced landing in tree-covered terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
