## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 09/09/2025 A NON-RATED PILOT WAS PRACTICING SHORT HOP TAKEOFFS AND LANDINGS ON THE RUNWAY AT THE HANCOCK LEWIS AIRPORT (KY8) IN LOGANSPORT, KY, IN A KOLB FIREFLY ULTRALIGHT UNREGISTERED PART 103 AIRCRAFT. AFTER THE FINAL TAKEOFF THE PILOT, THE PILOT DECIDED TO FLY THE PATTERN TO RETURN FOR A LANDING. AS HE WAS TURNING FINAL TO THE LANDING RUNWAY HIS ENGINE QUIT FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THE PILOT DID NOT THINK HE COULD MAKE THE RUNWAY SO HE LANDED IN A FIELD NEXT TO THE RUNWAY WITH TALL GRASS. ON ROLL OUT THE NOSE GEAR HIT A DITCH WHICH COLLAPSED THE LANDING GEAR AND FRAME.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
