## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT HAD JUST MADE A PASS SPRAYING HEADING NORTH. AS THE PILOT WAS MAKING A TURN TO SETUP AND MAKE A PASS HEADED TO THE SOUTH, A POP WAS HEARD FROM THE ENGINE. THE PILOT FELT THE PLANE SLOW DOWN AND TRIED PUTTING IN MORE FUEL WITH THE THROTTLE, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. THE PILOT SAW THAT HE WAS OVER THE WOODS, SO HE DUMPED WHAT WAS LEFT OF HIS LOAD SO HE WOULD BE ABLE TO GLIDE TO THE SHELL ROAD. WHEN THE PILOT GOT TO THE SHELL ROAD, HE SAW NO TRAFFIC ON THE ROAD EXCEPT A TRACTOR SITTING NEXT TO THE ROAD. THE PILOT KNEW THAT HE WOULD BE ABLE TO LAND THE PLANE BUT DID NOT WANT TO TAKE A CHANCE OF HITTING THE TRACTOR AND POSSIBLY CAUSING PHYSICAL HARM TO HIMSELF OR PERHAPS EVEN DEATH. THE PILOT RELEASED PRESSURE ON HIS RIGHT BRAKE TO AVOID HITTING THE TRACTOR, AND IN TURN, THE LEFT WING STARTED HITTING SUGARCANE, WHICH CAUSED THE PILOT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE PLANE TOOK SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AS IT SLID SIDEWAYS ACROSS A FEW ROWS OF SUGARCANE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN24LA364](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN24LA364), Sep 21, 2024: Grumman G-164A (N6565), LaPlace, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: Total loss of engine power during the agricultural application flight for reasons that could not be determined.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
