## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 09/21/2024 AIRCRAFT WAS LANDING AT LPR (LORAIN COUNTY AIRPORT) ON RUNWAY 07 AND ENCOUNTERED HEAVY CROSSWIND. BEFORE THE PILOT COULD GET THE SPEED OF THE AIRCRAFT DOWN TO LESS THAN 35 KNOTS, THE CROSSWIND PUT THE AIRCRAFT IN A GROUND LOOP. THE PILOT RECOVERED THE AIRCRAFT THE FIRST TURN. AT THIS POINT THE LEFT GEAR WAS ON THE GROUND AND THE LEFT WING WAS ANGLED DOWN AND INTO THE WIND. AS THE RIGHT WHEEL TOUCHED DOWN, THE CROSSWIND PUT THE AIRCRAFT IN A NON-RECOVERABLE GROUND LOOP. THE PILOT APPLIED RIGHT BRAKE TO SLOW THE ROTATION, AS HE WAS SKIDDING INTO TAXI WAY ALPHA, FACING WEST 180 DEGREES FROM INTENDED LANDING DIRECTION. SOON AFTER, THE RIGHT WING OF THE AIRCRAFT WAS LIFTED BY THE WIND GUST, WHICH PUT THE LEFT GEAR UNDER THE AIRCRAFT CG AND COLLAPSED IT FOLDING IT UNDER THE FUSELAGE. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE LEFT-WING TIP ALSO IMPACTED THE GROUND AND FOLDED IN THE UPWARD DIRECTION BENDING THE SPAR EXTENSION. AT THIS POINT, THE AIRCRAFT SKIDDED SIDEWAYS ONTO THE TAXIWAY ALPHA, STOPPING WITH THE RIGHT-WING PROTRUDING ABOUT 8 FEET INTO THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA24LA396](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA24LA396), Sep 21, 2024: Luscombe 8A (N2952K), Elyria, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll with a direct crosswind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
