## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT STATED THAT THEY WERE ATTEMPTING TO LAND AT NIGHT AND THAT THE AIRSPEED INDICATOR WAS DIM AND HARD TO READ. SO THE PILOT WAS FIXATED ON THE AIRSPEED INDICATOR AND LOST SITUATIONAL AWARENESS ON THIER APPRAOCH TO LANDING CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO LAND SHORT OF THE RUNWAY AND STURCK THE NOSE GEAR FIRST WHICH CAUSED IT TO PITCHED 90 DEGREES WHICH CAUSED THE MAIN STRUT TO CONTACT THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT SLID 150 FT DOWN AN EMBANKMENT AND CAUGHT ON FIRE CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO BE DESTROYED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR24LA310](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR24LA310), Sep 22, 2024: Cessna 177B (N177SX), Redlands, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain airplane control during final approach, which resulted in a collision with rocky terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
